The activity aims to provide basic and support to PLHIVs by assisting as they leave in the hospital-based setting and move on to family or home-based care. As a caregivers, it is important to have the opportunity to share in the continuum of care and empowers PLHIVs by ensuring the optimum quality of life. The workshop also helps participants to develop better understanding and acceptance on the realities of the disease by PLHIV family members, as well as significant others by providing care and the PLHIVs themselves.
The speakers and resource persons for the said training were Dr. Lalaine Archangel, Lorena Papa RN, and Ralph Dela Cruz, RN of San Lazaro Hospital-H4 ward. Each of them are experts on the field of homebased care. Discussion focused on RA 8504 or the Philippine HIV and AIDS Prevention and Control Act of 1998 where the participants were given a brief overview of the law that covers the rights of the PLHIVs.
The Basics of homebased care was also discussed and as Ms. Papa would say it “it is very important for you to learn the basics so you would know how to take care of your sick family members”. She also oriented the participants of the different scenarios that may happen and observe the different preventive measures.
The last day of the workshop focused on the actual demonstration and allowing the participants to put into practice whatever was discussed.
