The love month is here and it is also the time when cupid runs wild. The spell of Venus coupled with the naughtiness of Cupid was a vicious combination that inflicts couples and lovers. Steaming passion consequently shoots the sales of temporary love nests to skyrocket high. But along with it is the increasing chances of HIV infections among hot blooded people wallowing in casual encounters. Needless to say, possibilities of getting infected with HIV is high among people who do not take precautions and use condom for protection.

The window period before HIV manifest or detected is three months after the time of unprotected sexual encounter. So it could be said that a couple of months after February, an increase in new HIV infections are most likely to happen. Although this is all just presumptions yet looking at the statistics of the HIV AIDS Registry of the Department of Health, the number of new infections increased to almost 30%. Again, this may not be the reason but the consistent increase after the love month is too glaring not to notice. Because of this and because of the commitment of Positive Action Foundation Philippines, Inc. (PAFPI) to spread HIV awareness and education, a team of volunteers will conduct a ‘Love Walk’ in Manila. The volunteers will distribute flyers and other educational materials and answer questions about HIV and AIDS. The activity is in partnership with APHEDA, a long time partner and funding agency of PAFPI.

“We need to intensify our information drive if we want to decrease the number of HIV incidence in the country. And Love Walk is one activity that we have to do,” said Rodel Navarra, Chief Operating Officer of PAFPI. He added that arming yourself with the right information will help protect Filipinos against the continuing rise of HIV incidence. ‘Love Walk’ is for the celebration of Heart Month HIV Awareness Campaign that will be held on February 13, 2015 in Manila area.
