PAFPI with Miss Universe 2016

Miss Universe 2016 was the most celebrated Philippine event so far. But what makes it extra significant is its advocacy on raising HIV and AIDS awareness and education through the National Charity Gift Auction. And Positive Action Foundation Philippines, Inc. (PAFPI) was fortunate to be named as the auction’s beneficiary that was held last January 23, 2017 at Forbes Ballroom, Conrad Hotel in Pasay City. The event was attended by the contestants from Miss Universe 2016, the queen herself, MU 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, notable people in the Miss Universe pageant, people in government and embassies, and various celebrities.

PAFPI was the only chosen HIV NGO in the Philippines to be the beneficiary of the National Gift Auction of the 65th Miss Universe competition. The Auction was held on January 23, 2017, at the Forbes Ballroom of the Conrad Hotel. Each of the 87 contenders for the title of Miss Universe donated a gift from their home countries. The gifts were put up for bids at the event. Ten items were put up for live auction in the ballroom, while the rest were auctioned by silent bidding. PAFPI was chosen through Pass it Forward, which is the official charity partner of the 65th Miss Universe competition.

The auction was huge success. The amount raised will be a tremendous importance for PAFPI’s possibility to continue working to help persons living with HIV/AIDS and their families. Furthermore, the event itself was a milestone in the fight against stigma and discrimination. All of this was made possible by your choice of PAFPI as the beneficiary. For that, PAFPI’s board, our employees, our volunteers as well as the many recipients of PAFPI’s assistance are truly honoured and grateful.

On the eve of the 65th Annual Miss Universe Coronation, let me express our deepest thanks and appreciation to the Miss Universe Organization for choosing PAFPI as a channel for its philanthropic efforts, through its partner, Pass It Forward. We especially take utmost pride and joy in our indefatigable and exquisite queen, Miss Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, who, as early as in her winning response during the 2015 Q&A portion, had deemed HIV/AIDS-advocacy a worthy cause. Indeed, the most beautiful woman in the universe not only is blessed with an elegant surface but also, and more importantly, with wisdom and a pure heart.

Moreover, it comes as a much-welcome coincidence that one of our strongest allies and benefactors for the past seven years, M.A.C. Cosmetics Phils., has teamed up with MUO for this year’s pageant. I must confess I had to constantly ask myself why those in the business of beauty gravitate towards HIV-charity.

On behalf of the trustees and the entire PAFPI family, I salute you, partners, and wish you continuing success in all endeavors. Rest assured that your support will go a long and beautiful way in advancing a Philippine society that truly cares for and empowers people living with HIV/AIDS.

Sincerely,
