HIV Antibody Testing (HAT) is the only way to know your health status, but many fear stigma and discrimination. Perhaps it was the reason why many fear to get tested because their families might not understand them and that they will be judged. In fact, these fears are the usual reasons why one would not want to undergo an HIV test. But there are instances wherein their family would be the one to encourage them to take it.

My highschool friend, for example, sent me a private message me at my social media account and he was asking about HAT. Apparently, his parents were strongly encouraging him to get one because his health condition was so bad yet doctors could not determine why he was sick all the time. My friend took several tests except for HIV testing. I referred my friend to another peer educator who knew better and have more information about it.

Not surprisingly, my friend had the same doubts and fears, the same dilemma faced by other people. My friend was scared not only if the result will turn reactive but also on the possibilities like his family will not accept him. Fortunately, his fears were dispelled since his result was non-reactive.
